Weight Loss

Weight Loss Acupuncture can help support your weight loss goals, whether excess weight is caused by hormonal imbalances, slowed down metabolism, overeating, childbirth, poor nutrition and/or lack of exercise.  Benefits include but are not limited to: assisting the digestion, metabolism and elimination, releasing endorphins, helping to curb the appetite, calming cravings, regulating related hormones, and enhancing how nutrients are being used in the body.  Studies have found that when acupuncture is used in conjunction with other traditional methods of weight loss, patients lose more weight.  With the insertion of fine, sterile needles along the meridians or energy pathways of the body, endorphins are released.

These feel good hormones help to calm and relax, which helps curb excessive eating due to stress and anxiety.  In Chinese Medicine, excess weight is believed to be caused primarily by an imbalance in the body.  With proper diagnosis from a skilled acupuncturist, the specific systems and meridians will be balanced to support your weight loss goals.  This could include the endocrine system by addressing any hormonal balance, and the kidneys by addressing possible water retention.  The spleen and thyroid may be addressed to affect sugar and hormone balancing.  The liver may be addressed since it produces many of the chemicals critical for digestion, processing of nutrients and breaking down of fats.  These and other factors will be considered depending on your situation and body constitution, which will be determined at the time of diagnosis.

How often should I get treatments?

The number of treatments depends on the individual and their weight loss goals. This can be best determined during and after the first treatment.  Results vary from person to person.  On average, most weight loss goals are best treated once or twice a week.  Some may see results from the effects of acupuncture very quickly, while others may require a series of treatments.  Series packages are available.  Our weight loss treatments include diet analysis, breathing exercises to stimulate the abdomen, and a suggested exercise plan based on your health, concerns and goals.

During your consultation, we will discuss your treatment goals, recommended amount and timing of treatments to reach those goals. Consultation can be done over Skype or in office.
